This story has been updated with photos and information about the closure of the Eastside Trail of the Atlanta BeltLine.

A sinkhole has closed the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail between the Highland Avenue access stairs and Irwin Street.

The cause of the sinkhole in front of Ladybird Grove and Mess Hall has not been determined and while the trail itself has not collapsed, there does appear to be some crumbling at the edges and undermining of the paved trail due to the excessive rain.

The trail is closed from the Highland Avenue stairs near the bridge all the way to Irwin Street. A short stretch is open from the public parking area at the end of John Wesley Dobbs for access to Ladybird, Virginia Cotton Docks and across the trail to Rathbun Steak and 154 Krog St. All businesses remain open along the trail.

According to BeltLine officials, the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management is working complete repairs, but do not how long repairs will take. Updates will be posted at beltline.org.

The detour map below shows access points for trail users with both ADA and non-ADA  options.
