FLUX: Ponce City Market, set for Sept. 26-29, will feature a series of art installations that investigate the site as a playground of acoustic space.
“A project about sound is also a project about listening,” said event curator and artist Ben Coleman. “FLUX: Ponce City Market will create moments that invite visitors to “listen” to the space in a way that helps reshape how they view the site, it’s history and our connection to place.”
During the four days of FLUX, Coleman will take control of Ponce City Market’s PA system – creating unexpected points of departure from the typical shopper listening experience.
“Because of the impressive physical scale and vibrant activity of Ponce City Market, sound became an attractive way to explore the site. Through sound, artists are able to evoke the history of this place while investigating how it continuously changes around us,” said Flux Projects Executive Director Anne Dennington. “By asking our audience to focus on listening, not looking, we hope to inspire them to experience the site differently.”
Artists who will have installations at Ponce City Market include Eli Keszler, Jane Foley,
Mark Wentzel & Andrew Lackey, Otherpole (Kai Riedl and Éric Marty), Talecia Tucker, Tricia Hersey and Unexpected Collective (Rebecca M. K. Makus, Elly Jessop Nattinger, and Peter A. Torpey).
