The Atlanta Police Department is gearing up for a busy Labor Day weekend, with thousands expected in the city for events like Dragon Con and the Decatur Book Festival.

APD said in a media statement that Downtown and Midtown, especially, will see  increased pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow, and recommends allowing extra time for traveling in the city.

Several hundred thousand people are expected to attend major events through Monday, to include Dragon Con, Atlanta Black Pride, Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game, Taste of Soul Atlanta, LudaDay Weekend and Decatur Book Festival.

“Labor Day weekend in Atlanta offers a broad variety of events that bring our communities together with a common goal of celebrating our diverse passions,” said Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields. “We encourage everyone to enjoy the events responsibly and know that our officers are out there working to keep them safe.”

Police remind event-goers to take MARTA when possible, remove valuables from vehicles, and reminds electric scooter riders that the devices are prohibited from the sidewalk.
