Update: Atlanta Police arrest three in Midtown and Buckhead robbery attacks

The Atlanta Police Department has made three arrests related to the recent robbery attacks that occurred in Buckhead and Midtown, including an incident over the weekend at Piedmont Park.

Malica Astin, 18, Sahib Russell, 19, and Ricardo Randolph, 18, were arrested and charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault strangulation, armed robbery, possession of knife during the commission of a felony, and battery causing substantial physical harm.

The first incident occurred on July 2, outside the Buckhead MARTA station at 3338 Peachtree Road. The victim told police she was running up the breezeway to catch a train when she was grabbed her from behind and put in a chokehold by one of two black males. The victim stated, while she was struggling with the suspects, another black male at the top of the ramp near the bridge, ran towards them from the opposite direction to assist the others with taking her purse.

The second incident occurred on July 18 at 731 Peachtree St. where the victim stated he was attacked from behind and stabbed by what appeared to be three individuals who demanded money from him. The victim was rushed to Grady Hospital where he was listed in stable condition with multiple stab wounds.

The third robbery occurred on July 27, near 1320 Monroe Dr. NE where the victim stated he was walking on Park Avenue with the intention of cutting through Piedmont Park on his way to the MARTA station. While on Park Avenue, the victim advised he was ambushed from behind by three individuals who began to kick and stab him repeatedly while demanding his money. The victim was transported to Atlanta Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition with multiple stab wounds.

In both cases, investigators immediately began working to identify those responsible. Investigators noted multiple similarities between each case and were able to conclude the same suspects had committed each attack. Investigators were able to identify all three suspects and on July 20, warrants were secured for their arrest. During the early morning hours of July 31, APD Fugitive units located and apprehended all three. They were transported to Fulton County jail.
