Ailey II, the junior dance ensemble of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, returns to the Rialto Theater this Saturday night, Oct. 20. Their performance is part of a program of master classes, performances and presentations as part of Destination Dance and in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Ailey II represents some of the best young dance talent in the country. Members of the ensemble are trained at The Ailey School and many go on to become part of the main company.
Troy Powell, director of Ailey II, began his dance training at age 9 in the Ailey School and went on to becoming a touring member of the company for a decade before becoming a master teacher and resident choreographer at the school. He is very excited to be bringing the company to Atlanta for their performance at the Rialto as well as their programs for Destination Dance. Through programs such as master classes, community presentations and workshops the group interfaces with young people, local dancers, and local dance supporters.
The company will perform Bradley Shelver’s “Where There Are Tongues,” “Tracks” by Uri Sands and “Road to One” by Darrell Grand Moultrie.
