A GoFundMe page has been created to help pay medical expenses for Katie Wenszell, the young woman who jumped on the tracks at the Midtown MARTA station to save her mother on Aug. 19. Wenszell was struck by a train and remains in critical condition at Grady Hospital.
Wenszell, 28, was visiting from Milwaukee with family when a man, without provocation, pushed her mother, Sue, on to the tracks in front of an oncoming train. Sue Wenszell was rendered unconscious by the fall, so Katie jumped onto the tracks and was able to get her mother back onto the platform before being struck and dragged by the train.
Christopher Patrick Brooklin, 28, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and battery. Police also charged Brooklin with assaulting another woman at the station earlier in the day, according to a report from the AJC.
Katie Wenszell has undergone multiple surgeries to relieve swelling on her brain, amputation of part of her right foot, repairs to her shoulder and facial reconstruction.
At this writing, more than $50,000 has been donated to Katie’s GoFundMe page.
