Atlanta might play host to soccer matches for 2026 World Cup

North America will host the 2026 World Cup, and Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium is likely to be part of the action.

According to a report at CNN, North America’s bid beat rival Morocco in a vote by FIFA association members on Wednesday. In the unified bid for the tournament, America will host 60 matches, while Mexico and Canada will host 10 each.

FIFA officials recently paid a visit to Atlanta to tour Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which has been suggested to host semifinal matches and be the location for national broadcast center for the event.

A final list of host cities in North America won’t be announced until 2021.
