A delegation from Amazon toured sites in metro Atlanta last week as part of the online retailer’s search for a second headquarters location, according to a report in the AJC. Amazon officials met with state and local government and business leaders on Thursday and Friday as it narrows down a location for HQ2. Nineteen other cities are also under consideration for the Amazon facility, which could mean a $5 billion investment and 50,000 jobs. The Downtown warren of below-grade parking adjacent to Philips Arena and Mercedes-Benz Stadium known as The Gulch is being touted as a prime location for HQ2.
Members of the Atlanta City Council are hosting a scrap tire drive in April. There is no charge for City of Atlanta residents to turn in unlimited tires during the event. Only car tires and light-duty truck tires will be accepted, and the must be free of rims. Dates for the Spring 2018 Scrap Tire Drive are:
April 14: C.T. Martin Natatorium, 3201 MLK Jr. Drive NW, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
April 19-21: Hartsfield Incinerator Facility, 2715 James Jackson Parkway NW, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
April 21: CHaRM Recycling Facility, 1110 Hill Street SE, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
April 21: The Mall West End, 850 Oak Street SW, 9 a.m. to noon.
April 21: Greenbriar Mall, 2841 Greenbriar Parkway SE, 9 a.m. to noon.
April 28: Future Zone 3 Precinct, 2353 Metropolitan Parkway SW, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
During non-amnesty event times, CHaRM accepts tires and allows each resident to donate two tires for free. There is a $2 charge per additional tire.
The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs has announced the launch of The Mayor’s Gallery at City Hall, an initiative for emerging artists to showcase their work. According to a press release, The Mayor’s Gallery will be a space to promote and exhibit the works of accomplished Atlanta-based artists who have yet to garner gallery representation or receive major recognition for their artwork. Artists will be selected through a review process and will need to show a clear individual voice and a great quality of execution. Submissions for review should be directed to Kevin Sipp, Project Coordinator at Gallery 72 at firstname.lastname@example.org and include the following: digital portfolio, artist statement, artist resume with contact information, biography and an artist headshot.
