DeKalb water main break closes schools and businesses, boil water advisory issued

All of DeKalb County – including the City of Decatur – remains under a boil water advisory today, March 7, after a major water main break occurred early this morning on Buford Highway in Doraville.

Water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil. Customers should continue to boil their water until they are notified that the water system has been restored to full operation, and that the microbiological quality of the water in the distribution system is safe for human consumption.

DeKalb County Schools, City Schools of Decatur, Emory University/CDC campus and Georgia State University’s satellite campuses in Dunwoody and Clarkston have closed early. Many local restaurants and businesses are also closed. DeKalb County government offices closed at 11 a.m.

Work crews have isolated the leak, but there is no time table for completing repairs.
