The Atlanta chapter of the NAACP wants the carving of Confederate generals sandblasted off the side of Stone Mountain. According to WSB, NAACP Atlanta President Richard Rose said the carving could be sandblasted or chipped away and sold to the highest bidder. Rose’s comments come following the removal of the Confederate flag from the grounds of the South Carolina statehouse following the murder of nine black worshippers by a white supremacist at a Charleston church. There has been a movement across the country to remove Confederate symbols and monuments that many consider racist.
The AJC reports that MARTA will make an $8 billion pitch to lawmakers to expand its rapid rail service further into North Fulton, Cobb and Gwinnett counties, as well as a new rail line to Emory University and the CDC campus in DeKalb.
