News Briefs: Atlanta traffic; city procurement; innovation center

atlanta-traffic1-150x150Atlanta is the nation’s 15th most traffic congested city, according to a study by GPS manufacturer TomTom. Some key findings in the annual 2014 TomTom Traffic Index show that Atlanta traffic congestion increased 3 percent over 2013 and that drivers with a 30 minute commute spend 80 hours a year stuck in traffic. Southern Co. has announced it will open a research and development innovation center at Georgia Tech, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle. The Atlanta-based utility holding company will open a 6,000-square-foot “Energy Innovation Center” at Tech Square in Midtown, where employees will work on next-generation energy technologies and products.

The City of Atlanta Department of Procurement has launched ATL Procurement, a new website developed to simplify the vendor registration process and make it easier for anyone interested in doing business with the city to quickly identify contract opportunities online.
