The National Weather Service has issued a flood warnings for Peachtree Creek as heavy rain continues to inundate the metro Atlanta area causing traffic gridlock, power outages and delays at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

While the Downtown Connector was at a standstill this morning, commuters on the Buckhead Loop found extra misery as traffic was reduced to one lane northbound as crews attempted to pump water off the flooded motorway. Water was so high around Woodward Way in Buckhead, that a car became submerged, according to a report from our affiliate CBS46.

The Atlanta Airport was reporting delays of up to 30 minutes, while Georgia Power is dealing with hundreds of outages in the metro including a tree that brought down power lines on West Andrews Drive in Buckhead.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout the afternoon and into the evening commute. Be safe out there.
