Community leaders from various religious and civic organizations will come together on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel on the campus of Morehouse College to celebrate the life and legacy of human rights activist and former South African President Nelson Mandela.

Speakers will include former UN Ambassador Andrew Young, National Center for Civil & Human Rights CEO Doug Shipman, American Jewish Committee Atlanta Executive Director Dov Wilker and many more.

The Soweto Street Beat and Drummers for Peace and the Morehouse College Glee Club also are scheduled to perform. Organizers expect the service to be the largest public memorial for Mandela in the state of Georgia.

  1. Mandela’s life was the embodiment of the human spirit. His energy will uplift every corner of the globe which battles for equal rights for its citizens. Hopefully we may do his legacy justice by starting at home and empowering our citizens once again. I was compelled to pay homage to Nelson Mandela with my art by creating a portrait of the world leader In Memoriam at Drop by and let us know how his strength has inspired you!
