The race for Atlanta’s next mayor and election of city council members is just around the corner, and a number of organizations are hosting forums where residents can meet the candidates and ask questions. Here’s a rundown of what’s coming up in September:
Atlanta Police Foundation Mayoral Debate on Public Safety: This event will air live on WSB TV, WSB 750 AM radio and streamed live on www.wsbtv.com on Sunday, Sept. 13, 6:30 to 8 p.m. The 90-minute debate featuring the top candidates for mayor will focus solely on public safety issues in the city of Atlanta, allowing for substantive discussion on one of the most important issues this election season.The first 30 minutes of the debate will be broadcast live on Channel 2. The remainder of the debate will be streamed live on wsbtv.com, where reader questions for the candidates will be solicited. WSB-750 AM Radio will broadcast the entire debate live. Channel 2 Action News anchor/reporter Justin Farmer will moderate the debate, which will be held Downtown at the American Cancer Society Center auditorium, 250 Williams Street, NW, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. before a live audience. The entire debate will also be broadcast live on WSB-AM 750 A.M. radio.
Alliance for Intown Neighbors Mayoral Forum: Candidates will discuss issues at this event on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Inman Middle School in Virginia Highland, 774 Virginia Ave. NE.
Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods Mayoral Forum: Held in conjunction with Trinity Presbyterian Church, this forum will be held Tuesday, Sept. 22, 7 p.m. at the church, 3003 Howell Mill Road.
Midtown Alliance Atlanta Mayoral Forum: The organization will make it’s next Let’s Talk Midtown event on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7:30 a.m. a forum with the candidates vying for Atlanta mayor. The event will be held at the Biltmore, 817 West Peachtree St. This is a ticket event and costs $30 per person, which includes breakfast. Advance reservation and payment required by Sept. 18. PEDS Mayoral Forum: Atlanta Mayoral candidates Lisa Borders, Mary Norwood and Kasim Reed will discuss transportation, public spaces and the BeltLine. Co-sponsored by PEDS and moderated by Cathy Woolard, the forum is Tuesday, Sept. 29, 6-8 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 634 West Peachtree St.
