Empty storefronts in Cascade Heights to become temporary art galleries

AIA Atlanta Storefronts installation.

AIA Atlanta launches URBANfronts in Cascade Heights starting Sept. 14 in partnership with the Atlanta City Studio, the pop-up design studio created by Department of City Planning. The URBANfronts event showcases the cultural potential of the Cascade Heights community by transforming vacant storefronts along Cascade Road into art galleries. With the grand opening called Creative Expressions, residents will enjoy works of art and multicultural entertainment.

This year’s URBANfronts celebrates the theme, Revival. The Storefront Galleries will continue throughout the month of September. During this period, the Atlanta City Studio will host selected artworks and designs at their studio, and engage city residents about the culture of the Cascade Heights community.

On Sept. 15, Atlanta City Studio will host the Cascade Heights Corridor Artwalk from 5 to 10 p.m. This one-night artwalk organized by the community features a self-guided tour of the Cascade Heights commercial district with food, music and performances at several locations. The URBANfronts gallery will also be open and free on Friday night only. For more information, visit the Facebook invitation.

The Atlanta City Studio, which serves as an incubator, workspace and meeting place for residents, visitors, design professionals and urbanists to connect, recently moved to Cascade Heights from Ponce City Market. The studio will move to different neighborhoods every few months to continue the conversation about Atlanta’s design future.
