Public Safety Briefs: Phipps carjacking; burglary arrests

Atlanta Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the suspects in a daylight car jacking at Phipps Plaza on Sunday, Jan. 31. The victim told police that he had just parked his 2015 Mercedes s550 at the Buckhead mall when he saw the suspect get out of the passenger vehicle of a dark SUV parked at the curb. The suspect approached the victim, revealed a pistol and demanded the suspect drop the keys on the ground. The dark SUV, later found to be a newer model GMC Yukon, followed the victim’s vehicle onto Lenox Road headed toward Georgia 400. If you have information, contact Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-TIPS.

The Atlanta Police Department has apprehended six individuals connected to the recent rash of smash and grab burglaries in the metro Atlanta area. The smash and grab burglaries, which investigators believe are related to gang activity, occurred at multiple businesses throughout the city dating back to August 2015. Thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise has been recovered. Those arrested include Cordarrell Taylor, 29; Marquez Watson, 23, Freddrick Hammond, 26; Johntavis Bailey, 24; Uniqua Davis, 25; and Ashley Askew, 23.
