Bites, Beers & Bands will be held Aug. 9 at Aja Restaurant and Bar in Buckhead. The event will feature the chefs from each of Here to Serve’s concepts, as they showcase their grilling skills; including classic BBQ favorites from Chef Dan Garner of Prime, house made sausage from Chef Peter Kaiser of Twist and a modern Surf n’ Turf from Chef Phillip Strange of Strip. Among the breweries involved are Second Self, Eventide and Terrapin. There will be music from Sailing to Denver, a giant Jenga game, cornhole and a photo booth. The event will be $35 in advance/$40 at the door. Admission includes a sampling of each food and beer station. Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit the Giving Kitchen, which provides emergency assistance grants to Atlanta’s restaurant community facing unanticipated hardship. Atlanta chefs will be putting on their aprons and guitars for this special event featuring music from Yacht Rock Revue and the chef band featuring Ford Fry, Zeb Stevenson and Chris Talley. The Atlanta BAR-B-Q Festival returns to Atlantic Station on Aug. 14-15. More than 50 teams from across the region will fire up their grills to compete in the annual cook off to win prizes in categories like whole hog, ribs, chicken, brisket, pulled pork, sauce and more. The annual Give Me Five Dinner, an exclusive evening featuring Atlanta’s best chefs and sommeliers and benefitting Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, will be held Aug. 16, at Piedmont Driving Club. Atlanta area German restaurants and food vendors will serve up bratwurst, käsepätzle, pretzels, sauerkraut, schnitzel and more. The second annual Atlanta Meatball Festival returns to Belle Isle Square in Sandy Springs on Aug. 30, from 1-5 p.m. to serve up a selection of meatball dishes, music, limoncello tastings and much more. More than 20 restaurants will be taking part in this year’s event including Double Zero, Seven Lamps, Food 101 and St. Cecilia. Buckhead Italian-American restaurant Portofino, 3199 Paces Ferry Road, has permanently ended lunch service to concentrate on dinner and a new Sunday brunch menu launching in the fall.

The Fresh Market has opened a new store at 2840 Brighton Park shopping center (formerly known as Loehmann’s Plaza). The gourmet supermarket offers fresh foods and local, organic produce.

Local husband and wife team Kelly and Kenny Keith are opening a pair of new artisan doughnut shops in Buckhead and Brookhaven. The Fresh MARTA Market is now open every Friday from 2-6 p.m. at the West End MARTA station. The pop-up market will offer fresh, affordable and locally grown produce through October.

Mary S. Moore, founder and CEO of The Cook’s Warehouse, has been elected chair of the governing board of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Moore has been a volunteer and on the board of the Food Bank for 15 years and recently chaired the committee overseeing the search for a new leader of the organization.
