Water pressure issue postpones Slide the City in Decatur

color-me-rad-details-4Ongoing issues with a water main break in DeKalb County has forced the postponement of the giant waterside event in downtown Decatur. Those who bought tickets for Slide the City will receive information on refunds, according to a statement from the organizers.

DeKalb has been plagued with water pressure issues after a vehicle hit a fire hydrant and broke a 48 inch main transmission line at Henderson Mill and Evans Road on Thursday night. The break is affecting residents in Decatur, Tucker, Druid Hills, Avondale Estates and Stone Mountain.

According to reports at Decaturish, some restaurants, including Kimball House and Thinking Man Tavern, closed early last night because of water pressure trouble.

The city of Decatur is also opening cooling stations due to lack of water or air conditioning. The Decatur Recreation Center, 231 Sycamore St., or Ebster Gym in the Beacon Municipal Center (at the corner of Trinity & Electric Ave – entrance is on Electric Ave.) both have water and air conditioning.
