Public Safety Briefs: Restaurant robberies, town hall meeting
The Atlanta Police Department has released surveillance video (above) of the March 14 armed robbery of the Benihana on Peachtree Center Avenue in Downtown. Aound 11:50 p.m., a person entered the Benihana restaurant and pointed a gun at the staff and demanded money. The individual fled the scene, however, without any money or belongings. Any information on the case can be submitted anonymously to the Crime Stoppers Atlanta tip line at (404) 577- 8477, online crimestoppersatlanta.org or by texting CSA and the tip to CRIMES (274637). Persons do not have to give their name or any identifying information to be eligible for the reward of up to $2,000 for the arrest and indictment of the suspects.
Atlanta Police are also searching for the suspects in an armed robbery at Augustine’s tavern on April 1. At approximately 12:09 a.m. the tavern at 327 Memorial Drive SE was robbed by two armed males. Suspect 1 robbed the bartender while Suspect 2 robbed several patrons. Both robbers fled in a late model silver colored vehicle, believed to be a Toyota Avalon with a Georgia tag (unknown tag number). Both robbers have a slim build and were described by several witnesses as being 5’04” to 5’06” in height. You can see images of the suspects above. Mayor Kasim Reed and Atlanta Police Chief George Turner will host a town hall meeting to discuss public safety on April 9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Zoo Atlanta Auditorium, 800 Cherokee Ave. Topics will include the city’s commitment to reduce crime and for neighborhood-based crime awareness initiatives.
