News Briefs: New hotel; MARTA makeovers; Muppet auction
An Atlanta developer wants to build new hotel and office space at Technology Square in Midtown, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Bob Voyles, principal and CEO of Seven Oaks Co., envisions a mid-rise urban campus at Centergy North, a roughly 4-acre site at Spring and 8th streets the company has owned in a joint venture since 2005. Plans include 8- to 10-story buildings with up to 1.5 million square feet of office, hotel and potentially retail space to serve the city’s booming startup community.
The South Downtown MARTA Stations Makeover Project is pursuing public feedback on preliminary design elements to improve the appearance and experience at the Five Points and Garnett MARTA stations. Riders are encouraged to drop by the Center for Civic Innovation on the third floor of the M. Rich Building, 115 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on Dec. 4 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. to see the design concepts. You can also see concepts and comment at atlantadowntown.com/MARTAmakeover.
The Center for Puppetry Arts is hosting an online auction of Muppet memorabilia from the collection of Steve Whitmire to raise money for its new expansion project, which will house the Jim Henson Collection at the Center for Puppetry Arts. Whitmire is currently the voice of Kermit the Frog and, for 23 years, was the voice of Ernie on Sesame Street. You can see the items and place bids at this link.
