Vote deferred on Scott Boulevard Church property development

DeKalb County’s District 2 Community Council deferred a vote on Fuqua Development’s plan to demolish Scott Boulevard Baptist Church to make way for a mixed-use development. Residents packed Toco Hills Library last night, Aug. 20, for the meeting to speak out against the development called Decatur Crossing. The surprise of the evening was when a Fuqua attorney announced that the a five-story, 260-unit apartment building had been dropped from the plan.

Council members voted to deny the apartment portion of the development anyway and deferred a vote on the rest until a new site plan can be resubmitted. When that will be is uncertain.

The Scott Boulevard property is located across the street from Suburban Plaza, which is being redeveloped by Selig Enterprises to house a Walmart Supercenter.
